Weight Loss Advice.
Do you doubt that food addictions exist? Well, the research clearly indicates that certain foods can cause dopamine-like changes in the brain, the same changes that drugs cause.
And the worst part here is that being overweight can cause a plethora of additional diseases that plague a person\’s health.
So here is how to help someone who is suffering:
1. Let them know how you feel: The simple act of expressing your feelings can make a huge difference in the person\’s perspective. You have to be careful, however, with being forceful or critical. Doing so will get the person\’s defense up and they won\’t listen to anything you have to say.
2. Begin doing research: Seek out professionals and resources that can help with the situation. Knowing what options there are and doing this initial legwork can get the positive momentum going. And momentum is what the addicted person really needs to start reclaiming their sense of control.
3. Don\’t be a passerby: Do NOT jump on the excuse bandwagon with the person in question. If you agree with their excuses, you will only revalidate the thought processes that are keeping them stuck with the addiction. Keep in mind that people can remain stuck with extremely negative behaviors for a very long time because of internal excuses.
4. Don\’t assume responsibility: You have nothing to do with the actions the addicted person has decided to take. Thus, it makes no sense for you to blame yourself. If you do, you will simply reduce your willpower to help the person out.
5. Don\’t let those negative thoughts take over: Once negativity begins to creep in, it\’s over. You see, many addictive and counterproductive behaviors are a direct result of negative thoughts gone amuck. So don\’t add fuel to the fire here by letting the negativity take over.
Dealing with a food addiction is not easy. And if the person in question does not want to change, things can get even harder. So make sure you take action now and not later. Because later usually never comes!
